ST. PETER — Big South Conference girls soccer rivals Fairmont Area and St. Peter battled to a 1-all tie to close out the regular season on Friday night in St. Peter.
Fairmont Area, which ends the regular campaign with a 10-4-2 overall record, awaits the outcome of Sunday’s seeding meeting for the Section 2A playoffs which kick off on Thursday night. The Cardinals hold the No. 2 spot in the QRF rankings.

Senior striker Rayah Quiring generated the Cardinals’ only goal of the contest off of a free kick with 35:44 remaining in the first half. Carissa Saxton was fouled on the play to earn the free kick.
St. Peter answered early in the second half at the 38:37 juncture when Keira Friedrich tapped home a twine-finding shot for the equalizer.
Fairmont Area produced five shots on goal and six corners, while St. Peter also tallied five shots to go with three corners.
Katie Gurrola tallied four saves for the Saints, while Cadee Becker turned away four St. Peter shots for Fairmont Area.
The Cardinals opened the regular season by posting a 3-0 victory over the Saints on Aug. 26 at Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont.
